THE PLAYGROUND THEATER is a 501(c)3 nonprofit theater run entirely by artists, students, and volunteers. Like so many other theaters, we lost our space due to the pandemic. We’re excited to get back to work, though it is *bittersweet* to begin anew with no ahome.

It became clear to us this past year that we’ve always been much more than a venue. We’re a safe place to build and enjoy community. So that’s what we’re doing here. We’re recruiting the entire community for this event and want as many Playgrounders as possible — past & present, near & far — to be a part of it.

WHAT: A 24-Hour Live & Virtual Festival Fundraiser!

WHEN: Friday, October 8th to Saturday, October 9th (Exact times TBD, Central Time)

WHERE: The Lincoln Lodge – 2040 N. Milwaukee Ave., Chicago, IL and Online through multiple platforms

SAFETY: We are paying close attention to COVID developments and CDC guidelines. The venue is VAX ONLY and proof of vaccination must be shown upon entry. Audience must remain masked, except when enjoying refreshments. Tables and chairs will be distanced and there will be a break between live shows to sanitize. Our safety procedures are subject to change.

GOAL: Our fundraising goal is $100,000. The money we raise will go to artist and staff pay, youth & community outreach, and a new home sometime next year.

The entire event will be streamed and feature live, pre-recorded, and virtual content. linktr.ee/theplaygroundtheater

The following form is for artist submissions and anyone interested in sponsoring or partnering for the event.

We’ll be accepting virtual and pre-recorded material (visual art, TikToks, video bits, ads, etc.) and partnership inquiries throughout September.

  • We want to promote and share resources with other theaters and businesses that support the arts.
  • Hello, Artist!

THE PLAYGROUND THEATER's platform is meant to empower people, not for the powerful to punch down. As long as it's within that framework, any and all content is welcome. (Also, there's some stuff we can't show on "TV"). We are looking for a variety of content. Please read the form carefully. If you have any questions, email BITTERSWEETFEST at GMAIL dot COM.
  • Tell us what you want to do!

The LIVE show is being scheduled. We are accepting Pre-recorded and Virtual material throughout September.

  • We want to curate content for a range of audiences and ages. If your content can be clean or for adults, please let us know below.
  • Our aim is to include every submission in some way. We may reach out to you about condensing your piece, if possible.
  • MEDIA UPLOAD

Please format your files as indicated below.
  • Example: OprahWinfrey_YouGetACar_[G]"

  • If you selected the LIVE option for any of your submissions, you will need to show proof of vaccination to perform. (Ex: LastFirst_Vax.jpeg)
  • We want to promote you! Add your website, Twitter, IG, and other handles/URLs here.
  • ARTIST PAY

While this is a fundraising event, we want our actions to serve as proof that we are listening to the community's feedback. From accessibility to representation to artist compensation, we hear you. Bittersweet is for the entire community and we are dedicating 50% of our budget to paying artists. Exact amounts will be determined based on the number and type of submissions. You will be paid prior to the event.
  • Volunteering

Once a co-op, always a co-op. We really can't pull this off without you. Thank you for lending your artistic talents to this event. Let us know if you can help with any of these behind-the-scenes tasks.
  • Partnerships and Sponsorships

The Playground Theater created Bittersweet Fest as a way to uplift the community after a year and a half in quarantine. We want this event to showcase artists and supporters of the arts in a variety of ways. We're so glad you'd like to be involved. We have some suggestions, but would like to hear how The PG can be of use to you and vice versa.
  • Let us know the role diversity and inclusion play within your organization/business.
